2001 - Page 19 "On the new Decca album Wayfaring Stranger, young German countertenor Andreas Scholl steps away from the early-music repertoire to perform traditional folksongs with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. The move may be unexpected, but it is not without precedent. In lending his subtle, polished voice to these songs, Scholl also pays tribute to pioneering English countertenor Alfred Deller (1912-1979), who almost single-handedly revived the vocal style. At the resonant centre of Scholl's voice is a passage of lower middle notes where the vibrancy is strong and rich in a way very comparable to Deller's.

Reply – 2004-02-12 13:47:57. Okay, now I just HAVE to have some Rice Krispies. The challenge isn't the noise etc, or even the EQ (for a real gramophone) - it's getting the inherent distortion with a worn record accurately simulated. With worn early LPs, loud treble always leads to a harsh ripping or tearing kind of distortion. With 78s, the grooves containing any loud sound (especially bass sound) would be slowly ground away by the steel playing needle, creating a distinctive sounding mess around the loudest parts of a record.
