Professor Longhair can be considered as the creator of the New Orleans Rhythm & Blues. Musically active from 1949 to 1964, he made a comeback in the early 1970s. Inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 (Early Influence).

Henry Roeland "Roy" Byrd (December 19, 1918 – January 30, 1980), better known as Professor Longhair also known as "Fess", was a New Orleans rhythm & blues singer and pianist. for 42 albums, discussions, and more. This is an absolutely WONDERFUL album, all the musicians shine, and nobody has a piano style, or a voice, like Fess. One of those handful of truly life-affirming albums one is occasionally blessed to stumble upon - I first heard it playing in the huge jazz and blues section of the old Tower Records on West 4th Street in Greenwich Village; the track playing was "Tipitina", and I could not BELIEVE that human beings could make sounds like this - and you could dance.

Professor Longhair was singing this song called ‘Tipitina’. He’s got this very interesting vocal sound, it was almost like a yodel. Tipitina (Live On The Queen Mary, 1975) Paul McCartney.
