All told, Extraction from Mortality is indeed an ambitious and proficient introduction to Believer canon, with a riff set that might sate those into bands as diverse as Exodus, Mekong Delta, or more recently, Vektor and Ritual Carnage; but it simply did not have the songwriting charm of so much else that was happening in that 1988-91 period, and at best serves. This drags the album immensely since all the sounds sound alike and there are no hooks. The songs are utterly forgettable except perhaps ‘Vile hipocrisy’ with its catchy riffs and drumming patterns. This was already pointed out by the other guy and boy, do I agree with him!

Extraction From Mortality Lyrics. What good would result for a man By gaining the world but losing his soul? Love not the world Or the wrath of the Father you will behold. Do not conform to evil The desires conceived in ignorance Choosing to befriend the world Brings hatred from God as a consequence. DEATH, SIN Extraction From Mortality WORDLY REJECTION Deliverance from agony. Men would love you as their own If you belonged to this earthly realm Mankind hates the ones Who do not conform but rebel

  • Thrash metal had been there for a long time when Believer released their debut album "Extraction from Mortality" in 1989. The Big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) had all released 3 or 4 albums each one of them and there was thrash metal even before those four great American thrash metal bands. We often talk about Christian thrash metal. Let's make it clear there is no such thing as Christian thrash metal bands. Bands don't receive Jesus - it is a personal relationship. The message is clear in every song: It's about God and the people. Well, just like Bible, the lyrics are about the relationship of God and humans. Sure there are mentions of Satan, angels, and other things in text but they are not main characters. The Big 4 are all great bands who brought something for thrash metal and for music in general. Believer arrived to the thrash metal scene much later, still they managed to bring quite much for the thrash metal. This debut brings violin to thrash metal in the title song. I think we never had heard before it. Sure, Metallica made something even more classical with "S & M" much later but it felt very pathetic in a way and it sounded very tormenting. Also Megadeth made similar in the song "Insomnia" much later also. This album is very heavy stuff. I think I've never heard any Christian metal band be so heavy. I think we had Vengeance Rising but this in a way heavier. Both bands have sung about hard stuff. "Desolation of Sodom" is one of those songs which could get lots of negative feelings in today's society. This band sings about God's grace a lot: "Not Even One" brings hope for us who have disobeyed God's commandments. This album has a very interesting last track, "Stress" is a very experimental song which I disliked at first but soon I realized it is good and unique song, very unusual. I think those are reggae elements.I could tell you how much I like every song of this album but I spare you for that. "Shadow of Death" is maybe my favorite song of this album. Also the title track and "Not Even One" are very memorable songs. This album is amazing heavy thrash metal from the beginning to the end. This album is unique but I think people who like Megadeth's PSBWB, Slayer's "Repentless", and Kreator's "Phantom Antichrist" might like it. Don't be afraid of the message. They have an attitude and opinions which are not trendy.
