Lyric ZZ is proud to present to you very accurate Rev James Cleveland Jesus Is The Best. For whatever reason there might be. You'd be there, between each line of pain and glory. Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to me. If anyone should ever write, my life story.

On their best album, this fascinating philosophy jam band begins with indie rock touchstones and then explores the fringes of those ideas. Maybe that all seems as imposing as Young Jesus’ new album, The Whole Thing Is Just There-six songs, 49 minutes, sprees of knotty improvisations within rock tunes. But there’s an endearing transparency to Young Jesus’ competing personality quirks. They’re the grad student at a Big Ten university who reads books about jazz improvisation while manning a DSA table on campus before getting drunk at the five-act indie rock house show

The band’s debut album Psychocandy (1985) was a surprise to many, not just because of its influences but because of the depth and maturity of the songwriting. It may not be unusual these days to hear bands borrow from the Ronettes at the same time as from the Velvet Underground and Hank Williams, but in 1985 it was as radical as it was unprecedented. While there was plenty of hype surrounding the movie, undoubtedly the best thing about it turned out to be the soundtrack, which had a heavyweight Cure contribution (Born), a Joy Division cover that didn’t suck (Nine Inch Nails’ take on Dead Souls), and a searing, swaggering, vintage Jesus and Mary Chain.

The thing about the Jesus Lizard’s records is that they aren’t just souvenirs of their legendary live show. Sit with the discography as a whole and you get plenty of the band’s patented art-blues pummel, but you also start to grasp what made the Jesus Lizard not just a key presence during its early-to-mid-’90s heyday but one the truly great rock bands, full stop. The story of the Jesus Lizard is the story of two cities and roughly five bands. In mid-’80s Austin, Davids Yow and Sims were riding high in Scratch Acid, a caterwauling, piledriving quartet whose work served as a blueprint for TJL. (No Lizard study is complete without Scratch Acid comp The Greatest Gift After one strong album, Rapeman broke up in ’89, the same year the Jesus Lizard released their first EP, the drummerless, Albini-produced Pure.

Lest We Forget: The Best Of is the first greatest hits album by American rock band Marilyn Manson, released on September 28, 2004 by Interscope Records. The album was conceived by the band's eponymous vocalist as a "farewell compilation", and was originally going to feature a duet with Shirley Manson of Garbage. Upon its completion, neither singer was satisfied with the duet, and it remains unreleased.
