The Fragile (Nine Inch Nails album). It was produced by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and longtime collaborator Alan Moulder. It was recorded throughout 1997 to 1999 in New Orleans.

A double album, it was produced by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor and long-time collaborator Alan Moulder. The album features a rich array of electronic beats, ambient noise, and heavy guitar. While it received critical acclaim from many, it did not receive the commercial success that its predecessor, The Downward Spiral, did (attributed variously to the difference in musical climate, and insufficient promotion by Interscope Records). The Fragile peaked at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart in its debut week, before dropping to number 16 the following week.

Rated B-class, Mid-importance).

The Fragile ‎(2xCD, Album, CMC). Nothing Records, Interscope Records. While TDS is cold, stark and abrasive, The Fragile is lush, atmospheric music on a grand scale. Near every track on the album is bathed in sonic manipulations of almost ridiculous detail, leading to the discovery of new layers and instrumentation even after ten years of listening.

Still, The Fragile is ultimately a letdown. There's no denying that it's often gripping, offering odd and interesting variations on NIN themes, but that's the problem - they're just variations, not progressions. Considering that it arrives five years after Spiral, that is a disappointment

Listen free to Nine Inch Nails – The Fragile (Somewhat Damaged, The Day the World Went Away and more). The album is Nine Inch Nails' fourth major label release and the fourteenth halo. The album continues the plot of The Downward Spiral, despite the complete change in sound and style of the album.

In support of The Fragile, the Nine Inch Nails live band reformed for the Fragility tour. The tour began in late 1999 and lasted until mid-2000, spanning Europe, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and North America. The tour consisted of two major legs, labeled Fragility . and Fragility . The Fragile debuted atop the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 229,000 copies, earning the band their first number-one album on the chart. The album fell to number 16 the following week, becoming the biggest drop from number one at the time. On January 4, 2000, the album was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and by May 2005, it had sold 898,000 copies in the United States.

  • i feel compelled to write a review because as i read the official review of allmusic, it seems like to me that review has been done after a few impersonal listens and the depths and nuances of the album have not been delved into. At first, this album almost seems incoherent to begin with, few listens later, one feels there are soft passages followed by some harsh loud music and so on so forth. Soon, one BEGINS to get the hooks. This album is a masterpiece. Eventually, one cannot stop listening to this album and many listens later, one is still trying to take in all the layers and multiple hooks that this album has to offer. A few tracks become instant favourites and by the time the album ends, due to its complictated structures, other than a main hook or two, one has forgotten most of what happened, making the album sound fresh when one puts it on again. This is a work of a genius and should be appreciated as such. A must have nine inch nails album just like most of the others and is right up there with the first two. Indespensible. ( If reminds me of Pink floyd -the wall for some reason )

  • With The Fragile you have to understand what you are getting. The AllMusic review keeps relating this double disc album to the 16 songs on The Downward Spiral. This is unfair to both albums. For those keeping track, TDS is halo 8 and The Fragile is Halo 14. Trent and his band have matured a lot in between the two albums. One major difference between The Fragile and other albums is the ability for Trent to have space to breath. This is more of an album and not just a collection of songs. The songs intentionally bleed into each other. If you sit back and take it in, there is a lot going on here. This also is a nice bridge between the old and new sounds of the band.

  • I listened to this album from start to finish today for the first time in a long time, and it reaffirmed to me why I believe this to be one of Trent's gems. In many ways it is a concept album. If you sit down and listen to it in it's entirety and just let it flow, you will start to understand what makes this piece of music great.
