Seth Horan is a touring singer/songwriter. And there are thousands of those. He left RCA band Vertical Horizon in 1998, right on the brink of that bands multi-platinum success, and decided to play his songs alone on his bass rather than pick up the traditional six-string acoustic guitar hailed as the universal standard for songwriters.

Seth Horan is an American riter from Buffalo, New York who started a successful solo career after stints with Darwin's Waiting Room and Vertical Horizon. His songwriting showcases both his voice and his unique playing style, which combines fingerpicking, slapping, tapping, strumming, and use of harmonics as solo accompaniment for his singing. He currently resides in Syracuse, New York.

Seth Horan is not what one would consider a typical solo bass artist. There’s no ethereal finger-dancing on a six-string bass nor is there any frenzied thumping while he’s on stage. He doesn’t treat the bass as rhythm guitar either. He combines the elements of everything known about the music-making abilities of the electric bass to coax a rich orchestra out of one instrument while adding melody from another: his voice. In fact, he prefers to be identified as a singer-songwriter. In 2000, Horan released his first solo album. his is the session, and moved to Los Angeles. Totally immersing himself in the West Coast music scene, Horan worked as a session bassist and hit just about every open mic night in the city on a regular basis. In 2002 he packed his touring gear and a handful of his lyrical creations and started making the rounds across the country, living in his car for three and a half years straight.

Seth Horan I think you have to be very careful to have an aesthetic guiding force if you allow yourself this kind of freedom, and also be very selective about the feelings you want to express, because otherwise you could get as subjective as an infant that's crying in his crib. No one can deny that this infant is expressing himself, but no one would call it ar. youtube. Bill Evans interveiw 1970.

I bought this cd after first hearing Seth play at The Neighborhood Cup coffee shop. At the time he was in the process of recording Conduit. I was a little disappointed, because this album is more about the songs than Seth's bass playing. That means that there is a full band, so his bass playing just becomes part of the overall sound. The problem with this is that his bass playing is so unique and interesting it's a shame that it isn't showcased more
