BBC Sessions (Saxon album). 1998 live album by Saxon. Live album by. Saxon. The album quickly provided the band with success and they began a series of long-lasting tours across the UK, on 16 August 1980 Saxon appeared at the first Monsters of Rock Festival where they received a very positive reception from the crowd. The bands set was recorded but was not officially released until 2000, on April 1980, Saxon made the first of many appearances on Top of the Pops, where they performed the hit single Wheels of Steel.

Though they quickly changed their name from Son of a Bitch to Saxon, little was done to temper the band's ballsy rock thrust. From Biff Byford's often-shrill, always-commanding, bombastic vocals to the clean-lined, powerful twin lead and chord attack of Graham Oliver and Paul Quinn, Saxon expanded on AC/DC's testosterone- and humor-fueled roots rock/metal, added some velocity and exaggerated themes, and upped the ante on soaring viking leads and vocals. Hence, alongside Def Leppard, Diamondhead, and Iron Maiden, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal was born

Tracks 6-8 are from "Studio B15 Live" on April 25th, 1982. Tracks 9-14 are live from Reading Festival/Friday Rock Show on June 26th, 1986.
