Grammophone/Penguin Guide Reccomends.

I've updated an old BIC turntable and have a Marantz receiver, so now looking for something like a Penguin or Grammophone guide to classical vinyl recordings. Anybody have any ideas? I have both the Penguin and the Grammophone guides to classical music for CD but nothing so far for vinyl.

Grammophone is a joke, with 1 or 2 recommendations for each work, and then a list of 10 or so for the most famous ones. Dubal only recommends a couple of recordings for the most famous works, though I trust him more than anyone. The NPR guide is good, but it doesn't cover nearly enough works, let along enough recordings. The 1001 Recordings You Must Hear Before You Die is arbitrary about 70% the time - or perhaps it simply indulges in that flamboyant idiosyncrasy that we know so well. Liberty for wolves is death to the lambs.

Penguin is the seventh album by British rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1973. It was the first Fleetwood Mac album after the departure of Danny Kirwan and first to feature Bob Weston and the only one to feature Dave Walker. The penguin is the band mascot favoured by John McVie. His fascination with the birds originated from when he lived near London Zoo during the early days of his marriage to Christine McVie.

It is now known that The Gramophone Classical Music Guide is no longer printed in book format. I am wondering whether Gramophone can publish The Gramophone Best Classical Music Guide only for those recordings (CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays) with G points, something very much similar to The Penguin Guide to the 1000 Finest Classical Recordings - The Must-Have CDs and DVDs. Hence, publishing The Gramophone Best Classical Music Guide will be a win-win for everybody involved. I would also like to hear your ideas on this.

Got it. + add. album.
