Addy, a Ga from Accra, spent many years learning the major traditions of other groups as well as such recent developments as kpanlogo, a style developed by Accra teenagers in the '60s. It has good technical quality and adequate notes.

Addy was born in the traditional Ga area of Ghana in 1942 into a large family of famous drummers and dancers. Learning the gongs, Dongo, Blekete, Fanti Osode, and the famous talking drum, as well as other traditional Ga drums at a very early age, he has performed, toured and recorded throughout the world, exporting an appreciation of these wonderful rhythms to continually wider and more enthusiastic international audiences.

Mustapha Tettey Addy is a well-known drummer who have influenced many youngsters in the new generation to drumming. To him drumming brings back the folklore of the Ghanaian culture. Mustapha Tettey Addy (born 1942 in Avenor, Accra, Ghana) is a Ghanaian master drummer and ethnomusicologist. Addy is the founder of The Obonu Drummers, which performs creative drumming composed by Addy that is based upon the royal Obonu drumming of the Ga people and other Ghanaian drumming forms. He has recorded many albums and has performed extensively in Africa and Europe, and briefly in North America in the early 1970s and late 1990s.

Mustapha Tettey Addy ( born 1942 in Accra ) is a Ghanaian drummer. Addy comes from a respected drum family from the people of Ga. His father, the priest Kpani Kofi Addy, taught him early in the art of drumming, traditional chants and ritual dances of the people. After the death of his father in 1963 he succeeded him as Dadefoiakye ( head of the ritual drummer ). At the same time he worked at the Institute for African Studies, University of Ghana, where he had the opportunity to experience the musical styles of other regions and to learn from the Ewe drummers Husunui Afadi Adono Ladzekpo.
