I Look to You" is a pop-soul song performed by American recording artist Whitney Houston, from her seventh studio album of the same name. The single is one of two songs written by R. Kelly which appear on the album and was produced by Emanuel Kiriakou, Tricky Stewart and Harvey Mason, Jr.
The thing is, it’s 2009, and I Look to You is Houston’s first album in seven years. I Look to You spends little time looking back. It is a modern soul record, a collection of sleek, oftenspunky love songs that aim at something more immediate and tangible than nostalgia or catharsis: Houston wants back in the diva stakes. The mood is set by the lead track, Million Dollar Bill. Time and hard living haveshaved some notes off that amazing range; the clear, bright voice that dominated radio has given way to a huskier tone - less powerful but more sultry. Where her voice once commanded center stage, she wisely cedes some of the spotlight to her.
Houston's rocky decade isn't ignored, but it isn't explored, either: songs allude to Whitney's strength, her willpower as a survivor struggling through some unnamed struggle - enough for listeners to fill in the blanks, either with their own experience or their imaginings of Houston's life
Off the Record Lyrics. Sorry 'bout the things that I had to say And I'll make it up to you right now at the penny arcade In an open car or wherever you are Push yourself too far and it might get hot. Well, I really don't need the confusion And, you know, I just ain't the type To get all wrapped up in the illusion Of doing something that I know ain't right, right, right Right, right . You've got to want to rearrange And keep it off the record, off the record You've got to know that we will change And keep it off the record, off the record You've got to want to rearrange And keep it off the record, off the record You've got to know that we will change And keep it. off the record, off the record, come on.
I Look To You" lyrics. Whitney Houston Lyrics. As I lay me down, Heaven hear me now. I'm lost without a cause After giving it my all. Winter storms have come And darkened my sun. After all that I've been through Who on earth can I turn to? I look to you. I look to you. After all my strength is gone, In you I can be strong I look to you. And when melodies are gone, In you I hear a song. The first single and the title track from the album. Whitney Houston explained this song during one of the listening parties by saying, "The last several years spiritually, this song says all I wanted to say. There are times in life when we go through certain situations - some not so good. You have to reach for a higher strength, you have to reach deep inside yourself, spend time with yourself to make some corrections that go beyond your own understanding and lean on a higher understanding.
I Look to You R. Kelly/Tricky Stewart/Harvey Mason Jr. Powerful piano ballad that sums up the album. When all my strength is gone, I look to you, she sings. I know somebody’s gonna make love to this song tonight, she coos. A great groove and the dark horse of the album. 9. A Song for You Leon Russell/Harvey Mason Jr. A cover of Leon Russell’s 1970 song
And every road that I've taken Lead to my regret And I don't know if I'm gonna make it Nothing to do but lift my head. I look to you I look to you. Yeah. And when all my strength is gone In you I can be strong. Oh yeah. And when melodies are gone In you I hear a song. (my levee's have broken, my walls have come).
