This is much more of a general overview, including some artists who have been lionized, such as Orchestre Poly-Rythmo and Victor Olaiya, but also some, such as Mali's Rail Band and the great Orchestra Baobab, who have never been associated with anything psychedelic - the term is quite elastic here. There are some interesting discoveries, like Orchestra de la Paillote, who find the conjuction between trippy and cool jazz. It's worth the price of admission for the sweet wonkiness of the Mlimani Park Orchestra and the relentless groove of Ebo Taylor

The Rough Guide To Psychedelic Africa is a world music compilation album originally released in 2012 featuring 60s and 70s African popular music. Part of the World Music Network Rough Guides series, the album contains two discs: an overview of the genre on Disc One, and a "bonus" Disc Two highlighting Victor Uwaifo. Disc One features three Nigerian tracks, two Guinean, and one each from Benin, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Senegal, Ghana, and Mali.

Far-out rock mixed with a thick dollop of deep funk and soul became the sound of a generation. On this Rough Guide Nigerian guitar maestro Sir Victor Uwaifo employs the sweet harmonies and gently lilting textures of highlife, mixed with echoing horns and distorted guitar lines, resulting in a heady psychedelic brew. His seminal track ‘Guitar Boy’, included on this album, was a huge hit in 1966
