Hey Mercedes was a band from Milwaukee, WI/Chicago, IL, USA, that formed in 1999/2000 after the dissolution of Braid. The band consisted of Bob Nanna on guitar and vocals, Todd Bell on bass and vocals, Mark Dawursk on guitar and vocals and Damon Atkinson on drums. Hey Mercedes proved a more melodic antidote to the previous band. Hey Mercedes had their first practice session in April 2000. Their first release was a self titled EP on Polyvinyl Records in September 2000. The addition of former Sinclaire guitarist Ryan Ford in its later album may have transformed its sound towards a harder rock edge, with the New Wave aspect in decline in favor of an ethereal, Brian Eno production style. com/The Weekend (Canadian band).

  • This four-song EP (five counting a hidden track) is more of what Hey Mercedes delivered on its debut Everynight Fire Works. The EP's opener is a remastered version of the playful “Our Weekend Starts on Wednesday,” included on the full-length. Three other cuts (“Everybody’s Working for the Weak,” “Save a Life” and “Wearing a Wire”) were recorded during the same studio sessions but not previously released. They don’t offer any new wrinkles to the Hey Mercedes style. The secret surprise is a punked-up retro cover of Eighties one-hit wonder When In Rome’s “The Promise.” You have to fast-forward about five minutes after “Wearing a Wire” to find it, but it’s worth a spin. This EP is strictly for fans, casual listeners should pick up a full-length Hey Mercedes album.
