I thought I was mistaken I thought I heard your words Tell me how do I feel Tell me now how do I feel. Those who came before me Lived through their vocations From the past until completion They will turn away no more. And I still find it so hard To say what I need to say But I'm quite sure that you'll tell me Just how I should feel today. I see a ship in the harbor I can and shall obey But if it wasn't for your misfortunes I'd be a heavenly person today. And I thought I was mistaken And I thought I heard you speak Tell me how do I feel Tell me now how should I feel

Mistaken for Strangers is the second track on The National’s 2007 album, Boxer. It was the album’s first single. It is also the namesake of a 2013 documentary about the band, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. com/watch?v OeSAUNvpvY. But it’s not so much about the spirit as it is about having seen something unbelievable, and the need to tell someone that there are things out there that are amazing, ‘I’ve seen something I need to tell you about. I think that’s what that’s about. A lot of the lyrics I write involve images that just swing the song in a way that feels really good to me and there isn’t a literal explanation. They’re not riddles for the listener to solve.

Mistaken Identity is the sixth studio album by American singer Kim Carnes. It was released in April 1981 by EMI America Records. It was one of 1981's biggest albums and produced Billboard's number-one song for the entire year, "Bette Davis Eyes". It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The album spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard 200, and was subsequently certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

From the outset, they were an artistic anomaly; carrying both a worn rust belt heart and a warm midwestern soul. Produced and engineered by Sanford Parker (Wovenhand, Leviathan, Yob), "Prey" is a beautifully haunting return to form. In need of isolation to finish writing the album, founder Gared O’Donnell took to the road alone. Instead of finding a predictable muse, he found himself driving deep into the crumbling heart of middle America.

Mistaken Identity should have established Kim Carnes as a huge international star. Her Rod Stewart rasp, affiliation with Kenny Rogers, management by Ken Kragen when he was arguably at his peak, makes one wonder why the across-the-board success of "Bette Davis Eyes" couldn't be duplicated. Three years after the success of this album, Tina Turner actually did conquer the world, the various producers on Private Dancer weaving enough different textures to make for a multi-dimensional masterpiece. Too many cooks made for wonderful stew.
