Woodface ‎(CD, Album). CDP 7 93559 2, CDEST 2144. This is my favourite Crowded House album and for sometime I have been trying to choose between this or the new reissue but in the end plunged for this EMI100 release from 1997. It sounds very nice, great dynamics and a balanced sound with no bass bloat. I find it hard to believe it could sound any better than this!

Woodface is the third studio album by New Zealand/Australian recording artists Crowded House. It features five singles "Chocolate Cake", "Fall at Your Feet", "Weather with You", "Four Seasons in One Day", and "It's Only Natural". Woodface was a major hit in Australia and New Zealand as well as giving the band their first top ten hit album in the UK. It was listed at No. 3 in the book 100 Best Australian Albums in October 2010.

Where Crowded House's previous album, Temple of Low Men, showcased the often dark side of a man alone with his thoughts, Woodface represents the joy of reunion and the freedom of a collaborative effort - more than half of the album was originally conceived as a Finn Brothers project, which was Tim and Neil's first crack at writing together. The songs are easily their finest to date, combining flawless melodies and the outstanding harmonies of the brothers' perfectly matched voices.

Released July 1, 1991. 1. Chocolate Cake Lyrics. 2. It's Only Natural Lyrics.

Each body of work is expanded to include previously unreleased studio recordings, home demos, live tracks, b-sides and other rarities.

  • Pop Songwriting At It's Finest! When Neil Finn invited big brother Tim of Split Enz fame to join Crowded House in 1990, the collaboration resulted in one of the great pop-rock albums of all time! Track after track, WOODFACE is awash with memorable melodies and Neil Finn's off-the-wall lyricism. The catchy and cheerful "It's Only Natural" is quite simply the best song The Beatles never wrote, while "Chocolate Cake," with it's stinging jabs at American and British consumerism, is as witty as it is cutting. "Fall At Your Feet" and "All I Ask," are gorgeous ballads in the best Finn Brothers tradition; both seem effortless yet both are endlessly affecting.Neil Finn and CROWDED HOUSE have many fine albums to their credit, but WOODFACE is the band's masterpiece. Classic and essential.See less

  • Neil Finn briefly reunited with his biological and Split Enz brother Tim, planning to write and record songs for an album of their own. Ultimately though, it morphed to become the Crowded House album and one of the best alt.-pop efforts of the decade.Capitol's decision to release the quirky and scathing 'Chocolate Cake' as the first single to the U.S. market was a bizarre choice, if not downright baffling, particularly when considering obvious Bealtes-influenced candidates such as 'Four Seasons in One Day', 'It's Only Natural', the uplifting 'Weather With You' and 'Fall At Your Feet'.It was a decision that permanently torpedoed the band's already waning American fortunes, but internationally they also rose to unprecedented heights of popularity, the four previously mentioned songs becoming radio staples in territories such as Britain and Australia throughout the early '90s.

  • Few times, along your life before getting 25, you come across fine pop like this. How I enjoyed this album was through endless nights drawing plans for Architecture School in College, as I previously own both debut album and 'Temple Of Low Man' I was able to detect where the addition of the second brother Finn to the line-up was done: the vocals were stronger, soulful and sometimes it reminds you to beatles passages from ''Rubber Soul'. There's no way you cand deny talent on songs like 'Only Natural' and 'Fall at your Feet' (best performance of the album IMO). Hits like ''Weather with You'' are rich in overdubs, but the entire selections have grown with the time. The best album from Crowded House, mature, complete, fun as pop should be with no complications.

  • This is the 64th album of a thread of album reviews in which I'd like to guide you through my personal musical history based on my top100 Album list you can find in my profile: the previous album in the thread was "Blind Love" by Ratcat. When people talk about Crowded House they talk about harmonica singing betweetsters the New Zealand brothers Finn. There are many good CDs by Crowded House but this is their best because it just container so many good songs. There are 3 tracks on this album which appear in my personal songs top 1000 and 2 more appear on other albums:- Fall at your Feet (this album)- Four Seasons in one Day (this album)- Italian Plastic (this album)- Into Temptation (Temple of Low Men)- Better Be Home Soon (Temple of Low Men)Next album in this thread: "Weld" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse

  • New Zealand's favourite Australian Group. Very enjoyable and no doubting Neil Finn's gift for melody but like all their albums it kind of lacks an edge and comes across as a bit nerdy but not in a good way.
