Guyot did not travel to Italy like many of his contemporaries, but did go to Vienna later in life to take a position at the imperial Habsburg court, only to have it snatched away after the death of the emperor who hired him.

Jean Guyot was a composer from the post-Josquin generation. Active in the Low Countries in the mid-sixteenth century, he was also a priest, author and teacher. Cinquecento, who previously explored his secular music, proves equally authoritative in the sacred music that is largely responsible for the high reputation he enjoyed in his lifetime. download 320. Jean Guyot; Cinquecento. Overview (current section). Te Deum laudamus & Other Sacred Music. Hmm, it looks like we don't know anything about this artist!

The Te Deum laudamus comes to us only in a manuscript now held in the Bavarian State Library in Munich. It was apparently compiled after 1591, and bears the autograph of Jean de Fosses. This work has the inscription ‘My Lord and Master, the Lord and Master Ioannes Castileti wrote this aged 63’-in other words, around the early 1580s, towards the end of his life. It certainly displays the hallmarks of a mature work, and Even-Lassmann sees it as a summation of the musical techniques Guyot used throughout his career
