That's not to say this isn't a good album. Sad Mary," "Friend," and "Love 74" are all showcases for Harvey's excellent guitar skills, while "Things Are Getting Better" and a cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Danger Zone" let Maggie Bell shine in her best Janis Joplin style (although it's a shame bassist Jim Dewar has his considerable vocal talents muffled). The good time, neo folk-rock of "Mad Dogs And Englishmen" offers some light relief

I was born and raised near the sea. It is not only the power of the waves and the stillness of the sea that amaze me; it is the joy of swimming and submerging oneself under the water. The sight of tanned skin, the fishermen, and those who just frolic with water these gorgeous sight seen from above. Ode to the Sea. Where tanned skins begin to cross The sky's shadow ends Splashing waves of blue and gray Immensely in front of me. As the hands of the sea touches my body Wanting to bring me Temptation too strong In my youth and beyond

The album title, Ode To A Lost Friend, was inspired by the loss of Cramer's best friend to suicide. The album ends with the title-track, "Ode To A Friend", two-minutes that leaves a lasting impression, that's both heartfelt and heartbreaking. Between touring alongside Julien Baker, Joseph, Luke Sital Singh, Lewis Watson, John Paul White, and more, he released 2017's Cover My Own EP. Old Sea Brigade will return to the stage in North America this spring.

I see the mountains turning yellow The flowers melting to the sea My blood runs cold through my body Into a never ending stream. I saw the light turn into ashes The devil smiling from the shore The sea grows higher on a meadow To call my priest old that one’s bored. I tumble further down a hillside The great wind pushing at my back I saw my spirit slowly scalding Up on the devil's lonely ride.
