Richard Wagner: Der Ring Des Nibelungen. Katharina Wagner, the great-grand daughter of Richard Wagner, is currently codirector of the festival together with her sister Eva Wagner-Pasquier. Tristan und Isolde was first performed in 1865 and provided inspiration to many composers including Mahler, Strauss, Szymanowski and Berg. Throughout, the playing of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra is truly excellent, particularly the luminous brass. The orchestra, with Thielemann, therefore ensure that there's always something in Wagner's orchestra to enjoy, whilst unerringly nailing all the big set pieces.

Among the most distinguished Wagner conductors of our age, Christian Thielemann leads a performance of masterful pacing and burning conviction that features richly detailed interpretations from many of today’s most experienced interpreters of their complex and glorious roles. Now distilled on to two discs, here is The Ring in a nutshell. This set is essential’ concluded Gramophone of the Ring cycle from the home of Wagner performance, the Bayreuth Festival, when this 2008 production was issued complete. Among the most distinguished Wagner conductors of our age, Christian Thielemann leads a performance of masterful pacing and burning conviction that features richly detailed interpretations from many of today’s most experienced interpreters of their complex and glorious roles.

Assistants, Prompters. The Bayreuth Festival has started to send the invoices for tickets to the next festival. The Bayreuth Festival. A theatre created for a single composer: the Bayreuth Festival Theatre. With an auditorium in which his music unfolds like in no other theatre in the world. With no grandeur, reduced to the essential: to experience his works as a celebration. Since 1876, when he first performed his Ring des Nibelungen as a cycle. Richard Wagner: visionary, utopian – his heritage remains alive here. At the most exciting musical theatre festival in the world. Conductor: Christian Thielemann. Director: Katharina Wagner. Stage design: Frank Philipp Schlößmann Matthias Lippert. Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

This list gives details of all the performances of Richard Wagner's opera cycle Der Ring Des Nibelungen produced at the Bayreuth Festival, from the festival's inception in 1876, down to 2017. For differing reasons, no festivals were held between 1877 and 1881, 1915 to 1923, and 1943 to 1950. There were a few other years when the festival was "rested", and some in which it was dedicated to other Wagner operas.

Richard Wagner's main work is the tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen. Wagner wrote the libretto and music between 1848 and 1874. The four operas that constitute the Ring cycle are: Das Rheingold (The Rhine Gold), Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), Siegfried and Götterdämmerung (The Twilight of the Gods). Christian Thielemann. Albert Dohmen, Linda Watson, Kwangchul Youn, Eva-Maria Westbroek, Andrew Shore, Stephen Gould. Philippe Olivier: Der Ring des Nibelungen in Bayreuth von den Anfängen bis heute. Wagners Werk und Wirkung. Penelope Turing: New Bayreuth.

Taped at the 1953 Bayreuth Festival, the Krauss Ring has fabulous singing from some of the best singers of the '50s: Hans Hotter, Wolfgang Windgassen, Josef Greindl, Regina Resnik, Gustav Neidlinger, and, as the most passionate Brünnhilde of all time, Astrid Varnay. It has marvelous playing from some of the best players in Germany working as the pit orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival. Best of all, it has tremendous conducting from one of the great German opera conductors of the twentieth century.
