Vespro solenne - Venetian Solemn Vespers for the Birth of Louis XIV. Performers: Cantus Colln. dir. Konrad Junghanel. Labels: baroque, Cantus Colln, Harmonia mundi, Konrad Junghanel, Rovetta.

Rovetta: Vespro solenne. Giovanni Rovetta (. 595-1668) succeeded Monteverdi as Maestro di capella at St Mark's in 1644, and naturally the style of these vespers is much indebted to the great master. The pieces presented here are handpicked from Rovetta's 1639-collection and could have been heard at any vesper in St Mark's during the 1630's and 1640's; they have absolutely nothing to do with the birth of the future sun-king, all this is merely a combination of PR and loose historical facts (it was Rovetta's Te Deum that.

ROVETTA: Vespro solenne Venetian Solemn Vespers for the Birth of Louis XIV. Cantus Colln Konrad Junghanel, conductor. Digital Recording: 06/2000. In celebration of the birth of Louis XIV. In 1638, the French ambassador to Venice commissioned "the most solemn and refined music imaginable" to celebrate with pomp and circumstance the birth of an heir to the throne of France - who was none other than the future Sun King. Of all the musicians who are to be found in Venice, it is Giovanni Rovetta (Sign.

Listen to albums and songs from Cantus Cölln and Konrad Junghänel. Rovetta: Vespro solenne. Cantus Cölln and Konrad Junghänel. Schütz: Symphoniae Sacrae III, Op. 12.

Also Vespro Solenne by G Rovetta (1596-1668) from Cantus Colln and Konrad Junghanel. This is beautiful! CD 11-12 – Alessandro Scarlatti – Cain overo Il Primo Omicidio – Rene Jacobs A great recording of Scarlatti’s oratorio of the story of Cain and Abel. Good orchestral playing, excellent soloists. It certainly beats both my Huddersfield Choral Society and my Bernstein version, and comes pretty close to the more exciting Rene Jacobs version.
