Some Nice Things I’ve Missed is a 1974 album by the American singer Frank Sinatra. Consisting mainly of cover versions of songs made popular by other artists, the conceit of the album's title is that the songs on the album were ones that Sinatra liked but did not get the chance to record before they became hits. Frank Sinatra – Vocals. Don Costa – Arranger, Conductor (Tracks 1-2, 4-6, 8-10)

Some Nice Things I've Missed. The majority of the album is arranged and produced by Don Costa, who must bear some of the blame for the failure of the record. Most of the songs he had to work with were too simple to withstand substantial orchestration and rearrangement, but Costa's charts are overwhelmingly trite and unimaginative, underscoring how unsuited the material is for Sinatra.

At its worst, "Some Nice Things I've Missed" embodies everything wrong with Sinatra's post-1965 output: the song selection has a heavy reliance on covers of recent hit songs, the arrangements are heavy on bombast and light on musicality and dynamics, and the whole album just feels lazy and tossed off. There were certainly some contemporary pop songs I would've liked to have heard Frank cover; "Sweet Caroline" and "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" are not them.

  • As for Sinatra's adaptation of "Sweet Caroline", Neil Diamond said his cover of the song was one of his favorite versions of any of his songs. While Costa had to work with songs that were relatively simple, that doesn't mean that his arrangements are bad in any way, they are just unique. Also, on the contrary, I don't the think Sinatra sounds bored at all when singing these songs. While the collection of songs might not be typical to Frank's traditional genre, that does not mean he sings them badly. The less popular songs in this album: I'm Gonna Make it all The Way, Satisfy Me One More Time, etc. are refreshing to hear and show a completely different side of Frank's material and are not insipid at all. While this may not be the best album Sinatra ever recorded, it still an album with many a-good songs on it and deserves to be given some positive response and not be given the shaft because it is not typical Sinatra. This album is actually one of my personal favorites and my favorite album of his from the 70's.

  • This is the worst album he ever made. Nothing redeeming to this album.
