Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin had recorded for Atma Classique for a few years, but this 2007 release of Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 in E major should guarantee a long and happy relationship with the label, if its merits are anything to go by. Indeed, Nézet-Séguin's transparent reading of the symphony with the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal is one of the most compelling to appear on SACD; anyone seeking a great-sounding recording that is also deeply stirring should feel satisfied with it.

Album · 2007 · 4 Songs. When he was 14, Nézet-Séguin began leading rehearsals of the Chorale Polyphonique at the Montréal Cathedral, and he became the group's conductor at 19. The following year he founded Le Chapelle de Montréal, a vocal and instrumental group that began with a focus on the Baroque, but which Nézet-Séguin hopes will eventually perform a broad variety of music. In 1998, he became the chorus master and assistant music director of L'Opéra de Montréal. He was appointed artistic director and principal conductor of Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal in 2000

Accompanied by soloists of the highest calibre - cellist Stéphane Tétreault and pianist Alexandre Taraud - Nézet-Séguin leads a program that includes the quintessentially French - Debussy's La Mer and Ravel's 'Piano Concerto for the Left hand'- Elgar's inimitably English 'Cello Concerto', and a work that springs from a place where these two traditions mingle freely.

Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal (OM), Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Recently appointed music director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Nézet-Séguin’s performances of Bruckner have been praised for the vividness and ardour of his reading (Sydney Morning Herald). This highly-anticipated recording of Bruckner’s monumental 7th symphony was made following a series of live performances of the work with the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal last September.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin conduct the Orchestre Métropolitain of Montréal in a richly probing performance of Anton Bruckner's original 1873 versions of his Symphony No. 3, a work Bruckner dedicated to Richard Wagner - the reason it is now known as his "Wagner Symphony". As was Bruckner's manner he revised it in 1877 and again in 1889. It is one of the less often heard of Bruckner's symphonies, apparently due to the difficulty for conductors and the fact that the symphony is episodic - moments of grandeur and bliss strung together rather too loosely at times.
