Anthology 1967-1973 contains all of the 5th Dimension's biggest hits, including "Up Up and Away," "Stoned Soul Picnic," "Wedding Bell Blues" and "Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In," making it an excellent introduction to the group's easy-listening soul. Anthology is more comprehensive than Greatest Hits on Earth, yet it was never released on compact disc due to various licensing reasons, so the previous compilation remains the easiest way to acquire the group's hits.

The 5th Dimension could hardly be called un-anthologized. During their '70s peak, budget-line LPs flooded the bins and, back in 1986, the fledgling Rhino Records devoted one of its first compilations to a double LP called Anthology 1967-1973.

The group's soaring, seamless harmonies were given appropriately sweeping, orchestrated period production by Bones Howe, which often placed their records closer to California-style sunshine pop. That's actually part of the reason why the best singles from The Fifth Dimension's heyday of the late '60s and early '70s still evoke their era with uncanny precision. The Fifth Dimension began life in Los Angeles in 1965 as the Versatiles.
