This album is part of the Palo Alto Jazz Masters series from Quicksilver Records. This album represents a milestone in many ways. Historically, it is the last Quartet album. From now on, look out for Tom Harrel on trumpet in all future musical ventures in the Quintet. Nevertheless, we are all proud of what the Quartet has accomplished in the past 10 years. This is our first Palo Alto record and I, for one, am looking forward to a long-term relationship with a real jazz record company. This CD is a release of a recording from October 7, 1982 at The Village Vanguard. The Lineup is the classic quartet of Woods, Galper, Gilmore, and Goodwin. A great repertoire, recorded with extremely good production values. Originally released on quicksilver records.

Album · 2007 · 5 Songs. Their recording Live at the Showboat officially launched the band, which, after a few personnel changes, toured the world. After Leahey left in 1978, it was known as the Phil Woods Quartet until trumpeter Tom Harrell (1983-1989) joined; his spot was then assumed by trombonist Hal Crook (1989-1992) and trumpeter Brian Lynch. Pianist Melillo went out on his own in 1980, and his successors were Hal Galper (1980-1990), Jim McNeely (1990-1995), and Bill Charlap; Gilmore and Goodwin were with Woods from the group's start
