Johann Sebastian Bach composed the church cantata Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen ("Exult in God in every land" or "Shout for joy to God in all lands") BWV 51, in Leipzig. The work is Bach's only church cantata scored for a solo soprano and trumpet. He composed it for general use (ogni tempo), in other words not for a particular date in the church calendar, although he used it for the 15th Sunday after Trinity: the first known performance was on 17 September 1730 in Leipzig.

Johann Sebastian Bach Composer. Cantata N. 99: Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut, BWV199 Work. Seicento Ensemble, Doris Hagel Soprano. Johann Sebastian Bach Composer. Concerto in D (after BWV248) Work. Naxos featured album.

Bach, J S: Cantata, BWV 51, 'Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen': "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen" (Soprano). Natalie Dessay (soprano), Alexis Kossenko (flute), Olivier Bénichou (flute). Recorded: 2008-02-24. Recording Venue: 2-4 Jan, 2008. The programme features three of Bach’s superb Cantatas, including the great ‘Ich habe genug’, in Bach’s own arrangement for soprano, BWV 82a. The other two Cantatas are two of only four sacred cantatas that Bach wrote for solo soprano: ‘Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen (Praise God in All Lands) is one of Bach's best known cantatas, with an important part for solo trumpet, here performed by young British musician Neil Brough.

Nothing quite says "Bach" like the image of a woman lying face-up on some pavement, wearing a strapless black dress. Or so Natalie Dessay would have us believe. She also dedicates her new album of Bach cantatas to Martin Luther King. Welcome to the woolly world of Natalie Dessay singing Bach, accompanied by the fearless period-instrument group Le Concert d'Astrée under Emmanuelle Haïm. But most of all because her extremely strong personality pulls at the boundaries of self-effacement demanded by Bach's flawless melodies and intricate musical constructions.
