Tenor Rising, Drums Expanding have released 2 records on the [email protected] label out of New York City, and the Mateen/Heyner/Nuss record is also on that label. The second Tenor Rising record is a beautiful picture disc and is more of a combination of jazz and rock improv, and therefore more closely resembles the Mateen/Heyner/Nuss record  . The Tom Bruno/Sabir Mateen album is a 45 minute piece recorded live in a New York City subway station. The sound is surprisingly good and the two weave some really beautiful lines together.

Sabir Mateen ( born 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and flautist. Mateen played one of his first recordings in 1980 with Horace Tapscott's Pan African People's Arkestra. In 1989 he returned to New York, where he in 1995 with drummer Tom Bruno, the duo album Getting Away With Murder, a live recording of a performance at New York's Grand Central Terminal brought out. He then belonged alongside Matt Heyner and Daniel Carter Quartet Bruno's test and became known with his performances in the New York subway system.

SABIR MATEEN, DANIEL CARTER & DAVID NUSS: Tenor Rising, Drums Expanding (Sound @ One) (Picture Disc: Near Mint/ Outer Plastic Sleeve: Near Mint). Long gone and out of print monster free jazz slide that was released way back in 1997. It is just the greatest high energy free jazz disc that at that time just came out of nowhere and vanished almost as quickly, creating quite an upheaval by the ones who experienced this tidal wave real time.

Mateen is capable of raw, all-out explosion, but frequently displays a wide d. .Famed for his performances in the New York City subway system with the free jazz quartet Test, Sabir Mateen plays a passionate yet nuanced tenor as his main ax, but is equally comfortable on alto sax, clarinet, and flute. Mateen is capable of raw, all-out explosion, but frequently displays a wide dynamic range and a subtler side, and sometimes leans toward melodic free-bop.
